Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN), Indonesia’s state-owned electricity company, plays a critical role in supplying electricity across the archipelago. Tasked with electrifying the entire nation, PLN focuses on the generation, transmission, and distribution of power. As PLN continues to expand its infrastructure, including power plants, transmission networks, and substations, reliable communication systems are essential to ensure the safety and efficiency of its operations, especially for field personnel working in challenging conditions.
Challenge
PLN's vast network of power lines, substations, and towers often stretches over kilometers of terrain, making continuous and reliable communication essential. With tasks like power line maintenance, tower installation, and emergency responses, it’s vital for workers to have seamless, instant communication to improve operational efficiency and ensure safety. Traditional two-way radios, especially those based on PMR technologies, require costly infrastructure like repeaters and antennas, which are expensive and time-consuming to set up.

Moreover, PLN required a system that could integrate different communication technologies, ensuring that field personnel could maintain real-time connectivity regardless of their location or device. The need for a robust communication system that supports both voice and data was crucial in addressing PLN's operational and safety challenges.
Solution
Inrico, in partnership with its global collaborator iConvNet, delivered an advanced LTE-PMR convergent solution that addressed PLN's communication needs. The solution allows seamless integration between Push-to-Talk (PoC) radios and traditional PMR systems, enabling PLN to maintain constant communication across its entire network, even in remote areas.

The Inrico T320 PoC radios were selected for their ruggedness and reliability. These devices are specifically designed for demanding work environments, such as construction sites or maintenance work in the field. The T320 features a powerful speaker for clear communication in noisy environments, a dedicated SOS button for emergency alerts, and a large 3,500 mAh battery to support long work shifts. These features ensure that PLN’s field staff can work safely and effectively, knowing that communication is always within reach.

The iConvNet platform, as Inrico's global partner, provides seamless dispatching and integration capabilities. It allows PLN to create hybrid communication groups that include both PoC and PMR radios, enabling teams on-site to communicate effectively, whether they are using DMR radios or PoC devices. This flexibility is particularly useful for PLN teams working in different locations, ensuring that everyone stays connected, regardless of the type of radio they use.

The system also offers real-time LTE data transmission, which is critical for tracking personnel and equipment during maintenance tasks. With integrated voice and data capabilities, PLN’s teams can respond quickly to any situation, improving overall operational efficiency and safety.
PLN has successfully enhanced its communication infrastructure with Inrico’s advanced PoC radios and the iConvNet dispatching platform, providing a reliable and flexible solution for its field operations. The seamless integration of PoC and PMR systems, combined with real-time data and emergency features, ensures that PLN’s teams can work safely and efficiently, even in remote areas. The system’s ability to enhance safety, productivity, and response times highlights Inrico’s commitment to supporting mission-critical operations across industries.
