Inrico, a global provider of professional wireless communications solutions, has supplied its TM-9 Push-to-Talk over Cellular (PoC) mobile radios to Saudi Arabia's Special Forces for Environmental Security (SFES), supporting more efficient communications and coordination across its field operations.

The deployment enables SFES personnel to use local mobile operator networks for wide-area communications, providing an alternative to the satellite phones previously used for field operations. In addition to voice communications, the broadband-based solution enables the exchange of text, images and location information between field teams and the dispatch center, giving command personnel greater visibility into operations in the field.

Established in 2020, SFES is a specialized security force under Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Interior. Its responsibilities include protecting the environment and natural resources, combating environmental violations and illegal activities, and conducting security and patrol operations across environmentally sensitive and remote areas.

As the scope of its field operations expanded, SFES sought a more flexible and cost-effective approach to communications. Satellite communications provided wide-area connectivity but involved relatively high operating costs, while the deployment of conventional professional radio systems can require dedicated spectrum resources and associated infrastructure. SFES also required capabilities beyond voice to allow personnel in the field to share information more effectively with command teams.

Inrico's TM-9 PoC mobile radio was selected to address these requirements. Designed for professional vehicle-based communications, the TM-9 operates over public mobile operator networks as well as private broadband networks, allowing teams to communicate over wide geographic areas wherever compatible network coverage is available.

Installed in SFES operational vehicles, the TM-9 provides field personnel with direct access to dispatch and group communications during patrols and environmental security operations. Personnel can communicate with the command center in real time and share text, images and location information from the field, helping dispatchers develop a clearer picture of evolving situations and coordinate personnel and resources accordingly.

The multimedia capabilities are particularly valuable when field teams need to report incidents or provide situational information that cannot be conveyed efficiently by voice alone. During an emergency, personnel can send information from the scene while command teams coordinate the response, supporting faster assessment and more informed decision-making.

The deployment also simplifies the management of a geographically distributed device fleet. The TM-9 supports over-the-air (OTA) programming, allowing authorized administrators to remotely update configurations and manage devices without requiring each radio to be physically collected. This can reduce maintenance workloads and help keep field equipment consistently configured and ready for operation.

By moving more of its field communications onto broadband mobile networks, SFES has gained a flexible platform that combines professional push-to-talk communications with multimedia and location capabilities while helping control communications and equipment-management costs.
